Road traffic management
Our intelligent Traffic Expert solution for road traffic control systems offers the ability to acquire real-time traffic information. For example, it gathers information on congestion and incidents. Modular and scalable, Traffic Expert enables operators to perform real-time data analysis on the information gathered
With the right information at the right time, traffic controllers can anticipate events. This allows them to alert road users, prevent equipment breakdown and co-ordinate action, such as contacting maintenance services or police.
Traffic Expert can interact with management systems for car parks, tolls and tunnels. It also interacts with urban traffic supervision and control systems and road user information and support systems. The outcome is enhanced safety, reduced congestion and queue lengths. Road users are given the information they need to take evasive action, such as finding an alternative route.
In France, our Traffic Expert solutions are used across 80% of road management systems. Furthermore, our SIRIUS system for the Ile de France highways network is the most important road traffic system in France
In Denmark we manage the traffic supervision of the Copenhagen ring road M3 & M10 highway. In Singapore we have implemented an expressway monitoring and advisory system (EMAS). This ensures driver safety, improves the service levels to drivers and reduces both operational costs and reaction time to events. The Singapore system also combines tunnel and open expressway management.
The Traffic Expert concept has been further developed for use in other transport areas, such as railways. At Deutsche Bahn A.G. a solution to provide technical equipment supervision of the whole railways infrastructure is based on Traffic Expert.. This solution highlights any defects and events that might influence route availability.
SIRIUS system
Steria’s solution for the Ile de France highways network, the SIRIUS system, was first implemented in 1989. Today, SIRIUS II is the biggest road traffic management system in Europe.
It is designed to control and improve traffic flow and safety during rush hours. This is achieved with a smoother flow of traffic around the French capital. SIRIUS also keeps road users informed on traffic conditions 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Drivers are able to anticipate and react to incidents, taking remedial action in the event of accidents, road works, etc.
SIRIUS has three major functions:
- Automatic data collection via series of in-pavement electromagnetic loops
- Data processing, automatic information construction using special algorithms
- Automatic information distribution through various media (VMS, Radio, Internet, etc
It allows the French authorities to manage flows of more than 3.5 million vehicles a day.
