The Steria–Institut de France Foundation supports the Eysines Motor Education Institute through developing a communication system for children with motor handicaps In Bordeaux, an innovative communication system has been developed at the Eysines Motor Education Institute for children with motor handicaps who are unable to speak. Developed with the financial support of the Steria – Institut de France Foundation and the help of a volunteer from Steria, this system enables children to create phrases using pictograms, and provides an artificial voice and a sign language module. Once the communication mode has been mastered with the institute, the children can then use it at home to continue to learn with their family. The computer code was developed as open source, and will be offered for national distribution via motor education institutes in France.

The new £4.3 billion development, due to open in March 2008, will cater for around 30 million passengers annually. A pan-German IT project brings down bureaucracy in abnormal loads traffic An avalanche of 350,000 applications for transportation of abnormal loads piles up every year in the mailrooms of Germany’s public authorities. Around 1,000 authorities and 1,500 applicants are directly or indirectly involved in the clearance process. The necessity to check every detail with all concerned means that long-drawn out decision-making is inevitable. Given the ongoing pressure of the economic situation and stiffening competition, inefficient administrative processes are a real hindrance to the country’s economy. The so-called VEMAGS IT project simplifies the application handling process for the transportation of abnormal loads and therefore speeds up the granting of clearance.
French Finance Ministry Chooses Accenture-Steria Consortium Designed to integrate French government budget expenditures, non-tax receipts and accounting into a single, unified IT landscape, the Chorus project is the largest inter-ministerial program ever undertaken in France. The new software for managing state finances enables full compliance with the LOLF framework legislation on state budgets passed in August 2001.
Hervé Payan is appointed Group Consulting Director of Steria
Hervé Payan, 41, will be responsible for developing Steria's "transformation services" offer, which combines consulting and systems integration. This offer is led by Steria's 2,000 consultants and merges core business and technological expertise to transform the business processes and information systems of key accounts and enable them to take full advantage of technological innovation.

EFREI and ESSEC win the Steria – Institut de France Foundation's 2007 Grant.
This year's jury, composed of Académie Française members and Foundation board members, decided to award two ex-aqueo awards.
Devised by a team of engineering students from the EFREI Aides Humanitaires association, the first project consists of providing IT training to pupils and teachers, who will in turn become trainers themselves. The project is targeting ten schools in Burkina Faso, eight of which are in Ouagadougou. The training offered is based on Wedus.org, an innovating Web Education System, developed by EFREI engineering students and targeting emerging countries. The second winning project by students from the ESSEC's Initiative Enfance Solidarité association, involves setting up a multimedia library at the Margency hospital in Greater Paris' Val d’Oise department, targeting young long-stay patients, mainly from the French Overseas Departments and Territories (DOM-TOM) and Africa.
Both winners received a grant of €7500.

The Belgian government calls on Steria to set up "Foreigner@Card", an electronic card for foreigners Steria, who provided the IT infrastructure and services used to roll out the original Belgian electronic identity card, is currently adapting these solutions to produce an electronic card for foreign nationals living in the country. Foreigner@Card was designed and will be launched as part of the existing BELPIC (Belgian Personal Identity Card) project. Steria will undertake the adaptations required to create this new electronic card, at central level (National Register) and for the 3 municipalities selected to pilot the new project.
Hervé Hannebicque joins the Steria Group as Human Resources Director
Hervé Hannebicque, 53, will also sit on the Steria Group Executive Committee. His role will be to draw on HR developments to support the Group's ambition to become the European reference for IT services companies. It will also entail encouraging the employees to get involved in the company's governance via the European employee shareholding scheme.
The Belgian Ministry of Finance chooses Steria to renovate the application for the tax enrollment of individuals (IPP) As part of the programme to modernise the Belgian Ministry of Finance (SPF Finances), Steria will design the integrated system for calculating and enrolling taxes for individuals. This project concerns the core activity of the Belgian Ministry of Finance. The agreement, which covers a six-year period, totals €3.8 million and will be carried out by Steria acting as the Prime Contractor, in partnership with Software AG and Deloitte.

The Max Planck Society, an internationally renowned German research organisation, chooses Steria Mummert Consulting The Max Planck Society (Max Planck Gesellschaft) has called on Steria Mummert Consulting and its partner ORGA to manage its SAP systems. This contract includes consulting services, project development, migrating the old system to a new SAP platform and managing the new system. The consistently high security standards of the data centre, the high quality services and the compliance with the Society's technical specifications were all factors that led to the contract being awarded to Steria Mummert Consulting.

Trophées de l’Innovation: Steria wins the "Mobility Solutions, New Technology Solutions" award for the M2M ZigBee project
Steria has received an award from Orange Business Services and Syntec Informatique for its command of machine-to-machine (M2M) communications. The Group has developed a software kernel for applications that use the ZigBee protocol and has used this generic technology to create a simple, low-cost solution to help elderly people with restricted mobility to live safely in a medical environment, as part of the M2M ZigBee project.
The latter project, led by Steria, offers a framework for developing integrated applications and enabling fixed and mobile devices to communicate with each other within the ZigBee network. It also allows the network to interconnect with standard information systems and telecommunications networks via an intelligent gateway (IP network).
CNES calls on Steria and Thales to manage its IT infrastructure, networks and telecommunications systems
CNES, the Centre National d'Etudes Spatiales (French space agency), has called on Steria and Thales to provide managed services for its IT infrastructure, networks and telecommunications. The agreement is worth €80m and will run for five years.
This outsourcing deal will enable CNES to focus on its core business as well as to benefit from its service providers' experience in pooling IT resources via industrial and innovative project management techniques and professional expertise, and therefore to optimise cost control.
Steria designs a risk management system for Iberdrola, Spain's second largest electricity and natural gas supplier. The new system, which is certified ISO 27001, will enable Iberdrola to progressively improve the way it manages information about its business. Iberdrola is an all-round energy company that produces, transports, distributes and supplies gas and electricity to customers.
Steria - Institut de France Foundation Grant: the virtual keyboard for motor-disabled persons, led by IT students from In'Tech INFO (esiea Group), is now up and running.
The CVK (Custom Virtual Keyboard) student project, which benefited in 2004 from the first Steria – Institut de France Foundation grant, came about via the partnership between the Raymond Poincaré hospital in Garches (near Paris), a specialist rehabilitation centre for motor-disabled persons, and the school of IT engineering In'Tech INFO (esiea Group). The virtual keyboard provides assistance for persons who are unable to use a regular keyboard, by providing alternative means of writing. CVK can be downloaded free of charge at www.cvk.fr; it can then be customised and configured for the user's computer. Furthermore, CVK is Open Source, which will allow software developers to enhance the keyboard.

Steria archives navigational charts dating back to 1650 for the Swedish Maritime Administration (Sjöfartsverket) The Swedish Maritime Administration (Sjöfartsverket) has selected Steria to archive measurement data used to analyse the depth of the seabed and to scan and archive all navigational charts drawn up in Sweden since 1650.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) has awarded Steria Asia a consultancy for the implementation of Singapore Changi Airport Gate Management System (CGMS). Steria has been chosen amongst several global competitors for its recognised expertise in Airport systems and its in-depth knowledge of Airport operations.
Steria has signed a 5-year contract to become the strategic IT partner of the ODPM (Office of the Deputy Prime Minister). This new relationship will result in substantial cost savings for the ODPM, as well as improving its operating performance and upping service quality levels, enabling an increasingly flexible work environment. The contract is worth €44 million and will provide robust, yet flexible IT services to over 3,000 users across sites all over the UK. Steria was selected following an intense EU tendering process involving major global competitors including Fujitsu Services and Unisys.
Security consulting: France's civil aviation authority, the DGAC , calls on Steria to study the impact of RFID technology and biometrics on airport access control
At the request of the civil aviation department (STAC ), responsible for airport and aeronautical technical matters for the DGAC's security screening department (DCS ), Steria has carried out a study on migrating the automated access control systems currently in use in France's airports to integrate new RFID and biometric technologies. The migration process will affect the 300,000 airport staff who must prove their identity on a daily basis simply to access their place of work.
Extremadura: flying the flag for the introduction of electronic medical records Thanks to Steria Spain's Civitas solution, patients in the Spanish region of Extremadura now have access to healthcare services and hospitals using personalised healthcards. This solution facilitates the administration and allocation of healthcare resources, thereby improving the quality of care provided to the population.
Steria wins the CM-CIC Securities award for best IT services company of the year Steria received the 2005 award for best IT services company at the 19th "The stock-market meets IT sector companies" day organised by CM-CIC Securities in association with KPMG Audit. This annual prize, which acknowledges a company for the pertinence of its strategy and the quality of its financial reporting, had already been awarded to Steria in 2003.
Steria signs an historic contract worth €365 million with the British Home Office
Steria has been selected by the National Offender Management Service (NOMS) to optimise the IT infrastructure of one of the organisations under its jurisdiction: the National Probation Service (NPS). This end-to-end IT services contract, known as OMNI (1), is designed to improve the flow of information between criminal justice partners.
The initial term of the contract is for six and a half years and may run for up to 10; OMNI replaces and enhances the STEPS contract, which was entrusted to Steria in 2001. The contract is worth a total of €365 million.
Capio, the European hospital healthcare specialist, chooses Steria to outsource its information system as part of a general agreement for international cooperation. Steria, end-to-end IT services provider for companies and public authorities throughout Europe, is progressively to take over Capio’s IT operations on all of its markets (Denmark, Finland, Spain, France, Norway, the United Kingdom, Sweden, and Switzerland). The cooperation agreement between Steria and Capio, a Swedish-based European group, will run for five years.
Biometrics: Steria teams up with the Bavarian police to identify hooligans at the 2006 Football World Cup in Germany Steria, an end-to-end IT services provider in Europe, has been selected by the Bavarian police to implement its Steria FIT™ solution at several of the region's football grounds ahead of 2006's Football World Cup, to be held in Germany. Steria FIT™ is already in use at the new AllianzArena ground in Munich and at Frankenstadion in Nuremberg, both of which are now hosting Bundesliga matches.
The International Labour Organization approves Steria as one of its suppliers for the biometric ID card designed to improve the safety of seafarers worldwide.
In order to meet the needs of maritime businesses wanting to improve the safety of their personnel given the rise of international terrorism, the International Labour Organization1 , in association with the International Maritime Organization2 , has drafted the Seafarers’ Identity Documents Convention. They decided on a biometric system.

In the future, near 1 million seamen worldwide will carry biometric ID cards. This operation is the first to involve such large-scale interoperability.

Steria has presented a prototype mobile version of its biometric solution, Steria FIT1 , to police in the German Land of Hessen . This new technology serves to rapidly identify individuals, regardless of their location.
Hessen police force were looking for a mobile technology solution for identifying and transmitting prints in a bid to locate and apprehend dangerous individuals and thus prevent them from committing crimes. This type of technology is particularly well suited to maintaining security at busy events, such as football matches.
Hessen police chose the Steria FIT solution in the scope of their project to digitise all standard identification procedures.
Simplified Fiscal Accounts: the Belgian finance ministry chooses Steria to re-engineer its income tax processing system As part of the Belgian finance ministry's (or Federal Public Finance Department's) Coperfin program, Steria is setting up an integrated system to process tax returns and collection for both citizens and companies. This 3-year contract, which includes the first phase of system implementation, is being carried out in partnership with CSC and is worth €12.5 million. Steria is continuing to play a key role in modernising Europe's administrative systems and is thus handling a similar operation for the French Economy and Finance Ministry.
Steria implements Europe's first railway supervision system. Steria, end-to-end IT services provider and major player in IT for the transport sector, has been selected by the European Union to implement a Europe-wide railway supervision system. This new system, known as Europtirails, is scheduled to begin operating in November 2005 and will be invaluable to railway operators in terms of real time coordination of traffic in Europe. The implementation of Europtirails and the resulting harmonisation of European train connections should boost the appeal of rail transport as an ecological alternative to air transport and in turn benefit the rail freight industry.

The Danish Road Directorate chooses Steria to manage road traffic supervision on the Copenhagen ring road Steria is to roll out its Traffic expert solution to improve traffic safety and fluidity during construction work on Copenhagen's ring road. Used by over 80,000 vehicles a day, this motorway will soon be expanded to three lanes over a 17-kilometre stretch: a veritable gateway for Scandinavian countries to the European mainland following the construction of the Øresund bridge, which links Sweden and Denmark. After the work has been completed, the system will be maintained and probably extended to other parts of the Copenhagen area. This is the largest road traffic management solution to be implemented in Denmark.
Steria signed a 40 million euro contract for the European Commission The European Union Commission's Directorate General for Justice and Home Affairs has chosen an international consortium led by Steria, co-contracting with HP Belgium, and associated with Mummert Consulting (Germany) and Primesphere (Luxembourg) for the development of a new Schengen Information System (SIS II) and a Visa Information System (VIS). The Schengen Information System provides reliable and exchangeable information concerning nationals of third countries wishing to enter or live in the European Union. The VIS project aims to deploy and develop a large-scale information system to manage visa requests for entry into European countries of the Schengen area.The contract, worth up to 40 million euro will ensure that, by the end of 2006 for VIS and by March 2007 for SIS II, the European Union centrally run parts of both information systems, will be up and running.
Steria: the Belgian government's number one choice for the implementation of its electronic identity card system
Steria has provided 589 Belgian municipalities with the IT infrastructure and services required to deploy the country's electronic identity card (BELPIC) system. The new card will be in the wallets of 8.5 million Belgian citizens by the end of 2006. The success of the Belgian project confirms the end-to-end IT services provider's position and compounds its claim to serving European governments and this, at a time, when many countries are considering an overhaul of their national identity card systems.
This new secure and scalable card will eventually enable the remote authentication of the holder and contain biometric data.
Steria, Prime Contractor for the Toulon Tunnel Traffic Safety and Supervision System in France Steria, an end-to-end IT services provider in Europe and a key player in transport IT solutions, developed a comprehensive operating, security and traffic supervision system for the Toulon tunnel and the public motorway network in the Toulon area in Southern France. The project includes study, development and installation through to implementation, for the Var region DDE (civil engineering and infrastructure directorate). As part of a two-year contract, Steria will also manage system maintenance and developments and train operating staff.
Groundbreakers in electronic voting: Belgians to vote electronically in the European and regional elections on 13 June 2004 Steria, a European end-to-end IT services provider, has set up its electronic voting system for the Belgian federal government to be used in the European elections on 13 June. This system, used in towns which have chosen this option, will enable 44% of Belgian voters to electronically elect their European Parliament members and their regional representatives.

This is one of the largest SSO projects in the world.
Biometrics: further success for Steria's FIT solution in Germany The Bavarian police has chosen Steria's FIT biometrics solution for the management and transmission of fingerprints as part of its suspect information identification and recording procedures. This project follows Steria's implementation of the Eurodac project involving the biometric management of asylum applications for the European Commission and 14 EU countries, and its setting up of a biometric facial recognition system for Grampian police in Scotland.
Toulouse: Steria develops one of the first multimodal systems for French urban transport The European end-to-end IT services provider, Steria, has developed the management and control system of seven park-and-ride car parks for the SMTC (Toulouse joint public transport union). These car parks are located along the 12km-long A Line of the Toulouse underground* and offer a total of 3500 parking spaces. Due to be up-and-running by the end of the year, this is one of the first multimodal systems to be used in French urban transport, with the underground ticket also being valid for the car park.
Steria choosen for the development of a new road traffic supervision system in Asia The Malaysian Ministry of Works has recently awarded a contract to a consortium composed of Itramas Corporation and Steria, the global IT services operator and major player in computerised transport systems in Europe, in order to implement the traffic supervision system of Johor Bahru's 25 km-long by-pass motorway. Johor Bahru lies on the border between Malaysia and Singapore and is the second largest city in the country.

In addition to financing IT equipment, the aim is to support training personnel who will provide basic IT training to association members to help them reintegrate socially and professionally. This is the fourth such project backed by the Steria-Institut de France Foundation since it was created two years ago.

Steria secures a £26.7 million contract to link up healthcare organisations in Northern Ireland The department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety in Northern Ireland has recently awarded a 10-year £26.7 million (€40 million) contract to Steria in order to link up all healthcare organisations in Northern Ireland. Nearly 400 organisations and 350 surgeries will be able to share patient information thanks to a new Health and Care Number system. The implementation of the Health and Care Number and the establishment of a secure means of sharing information between health and social services bodies will facilitate the task of healthcare professionals and provide them with a comprehensive view of medical records. This is Steria's second contract involving secure data exchanges for healthcare systems on a national scale. The first was for the Swedish national health system.

The Malmo region in the south of Sweden was the first to start using an authentication and electronic signature system on 1 July 2003, allowing around 2,000 agents to produce electronic invoices. This was the first stage in Steria's implementation of a national-scale electronic certification infrastructure for healthcare services.

Frankfurt Fire Brigade to Modernise its Operations Centre with an IT Solution by Steria Steria has been called on to implement the IGNIS command and control system at the Frankfurt fire brigade's new operations centre. Designed by Steria, this system will enable the fire brigade to ensure very short response times even during peak periods of up to 2000 operations a day. This project follows the implementation of a similar, highly secure system for the Berlin fire brigade.

The system was used for national elections on 18 May 2003 in towns, which chose to provide electronic voting. This service enabled 44% of Belgian voters (3.2 million citizens) to elect 150 deputies to the Chamber and 40 senators electronically.
