Steria has released the results of a European-wide study which surveyed senior civil servants and public officials in government departments and agencies about their attitudes and actions in the face of a pressing demand for public administration transformation.
The results show that the difficult economic climate paired with demands for increasing transparency from the public means there is real evidence that government leaders are doing more to transform the way they operate.
The report, Beyond Efficiency: Public Administration Transformation, revealed that open data, citizen-centric services, collaboration between private and public organisations and citizens as well as shared services are the top issues facing public sector leaders across Europe. One third of European civil servants feel that breaking down departmental silos is vital to developing more citizen-centric services.
Issues such as the financial debt crisis, ageing populations, demand from the public for greater transparency especially with regards to data and Europe moving towards a single market as well as increasing globalisation mean that these themes are no longer just being discussed. There is plenty of evidence of action – evidence for the adoption of a new open, citizen-centric approach to transformation.
